Based on your answers, a full eye examination is likely the right starting point. It covers your prescription, retinal health, and pressure, and gives us a baseline to work from. If contact lenses or dry eye are also on your mind, mention it when you book and we will allow a little extra time.

Lewis Tetlow

Lewis Tetlow trained in optometry at Cardiff University, graduating in 2008, and spent six years working in a busy hospital eye clinic before opening Cedar Vision Works in 2014. The clinic work taught him to read a fundus image quickly and to talk to patients who were frightened; the private practice taught him to slow down. He keeps a small library of optics textbooks on the windowsill behind his testing chair and reads a chapter most evenings before locking up. His habit of scheduling the last appointment of the day with a little extra time is something regulars have come to count on.

Common questions

How long does a full eye examination take, and do I need to allow time for my pupils to dilate?

The standard examination is 40 minutes. We use OCT imaging routinely, which means we rarely need to dilate pupils for a standard check. If we do need to dilate, we will tell you in advance and ask you to allow an extra 30 to 45 minutes and to arrange a lift home, as driving is not advisable for a few hours afterward.

Can I bring my current glasses and frames to see whether new lenses can be fitted into them?

Yes, bring them along. Our dispensing optician will check the frame condition, measure the fitting, and give you an honest assessment of whether the frame is suitable for new lenses. Some older frames are not worth re-glazing; we will tell you that plainly rather than take the job and have it come back poorly.
